First Grade Math Focus

First grade students are working on becoming fluent with numbers to five.  They are conceptualizing that a number is made up of two or more parts.  This is the most important relationship that can be developed about numbers.

Second Grade Math Focus

Second grade students are working on becoming fluent with numbers to ten.  Students will begin this work by finding the number that makes 10 when added to a given number.  They will use objects or drawings and record their answers with a drawing and equation. Students will be encouraged to use such strategies as counting on or back.

Third Grade Math Focus

Third grade students are working on becoming fluent with numbers to ten.  Students will begin this work by finding the number that makes 10 and beyond when added to a given number.  They will use objects or drawings and record their answers with a drawing and equation. Students will be encouraged to use such strategies as counting on or  the doubles strategy.

Fourth and Fifth Grade Math Focus

Fourth and fifth grade students are working on becoming fluent with numbers 1 to twenty.  In this unit students will learn to quickly use reference numbers involving the base of 5 or 10.  Other strategies that will be encouraged are the use of doubles and doubles plus or minus one.  The goal of this unit is that your student quickly generate many combinations and partitions in the range of 10-20.
